Why Mothers Rarely Achieve Peak Experiences

Peak experiences are truly transformational moments in people’s lives. They achieve the highest state of euphoria, awareness, bliss, peace, and a feeling of eternity and oneness with the universe. They are often sought after for one’s entire lives, and once achieved, they are often resought again, like a jewel thief who lost the Hope diamond. These experiences transcend even the highest joys that occur from the birth of a child, a wedding, or even a drug-fueled binge. These experiences lie at the core of nearly every major religion, and fuel the most famous religious figures through most of their lives.

Yet, there are generally certain environmental requirements needed for this transcendent experience. While not every peak experience is identical, they have some common components.

These are:

  • Isolation or peace from outside disturbances

  • Removal of responsibilities

  • Lack of dependence of other people on you for basic needs

  • Basic needs are met for the foreseeable future: water, food, shelter, rest etc.

  • Intense concentration must be possible

  • There are no larger egos in the vicinity to criticize or insult

  • These requirements should be met for at least 48 hours to maximize potential for peak experience

  • There may be a few more requirements, but these are the major ones

If one looks over these requirements, it becomes quite clear that any mother with living children would find meeting these requirements extremely difficult. A child is a responsibility, by definition. Trying to remove all responsibilities for 2 days, have no egos around her, have her own basic needs met for the foreseeable future, and have the ability to isolate or remove disturbances -  this seems highly unlikely.

Of course, now in 2020, mothers should be able to achieve these requirements if they specifically seek them. But without knowledge of what they are seeking, it would be unlikely for these requirements to randomly happen. Even if all requirements are achieved, most mothers with children who are not fully independent, and possibly even mothers with independent children, still have some subconscious thoughts devoted to their children. It is incredibly difficult for a mother to sever the subconscious chain to her children.

In order to achieve a full and successful peak experience, it is best to focus one’s subconscious fully to the matter at hand. Achieving this can be extraordinarily tricky if one is a mother. Not only has her biology focused her brain on her children, she has also developed mental habits over a lifetime that keep her thoughts focused on her children every hour. Even if one meets all of the requirements above, it is quite challenging to devote one’s subconscious exclusively to an abstract concept such as enlightenment.

Thus, when one looks through the pages of history, it is uncommon to find numerous women leading spiritual movements. And when you do find them, such as Mother Theresa, they are usually motherless. But now, with the knowledge of what the mother will need, perhaps she will be given the freedom, and environmental requirements so that we can have more mothers achieving this rare experience.
